Synopsis: Moody Taylor’s life is already a mess thanks to a cheating ex when her narcissistic mother casually drops a bomb: the existence of her estranged sister.  Moody’s “aunt” has died and left her a bookshop and, apparently, a whole new family in Edinburgh. Blindsided, pissed off, and exhausted from her controlling family and blown up plans, getting the hell out of dodge with her best friend Lulu seems reasonable, right?

But just because Scotland has castles and cobblestones doesn’t mean it magically fixes your problems. Her newfound family is warm and welcoming until yet another buried secret threatens to blow things up all over again. Meanwhile, Blithe Books is thriving, but Moody can’t shake her mother’s dire warnings that she’s going to crash and burn spectacularly.

And then there’s Midnight Man, the hot but infuriating coffee shop customer from back home whose absurdly complicated order used to drive her nuts. Now, he’s suddenly in Edinburgh, but only for the summer, all charming and patient. Moody doesn’t do temporary, and she definitely doesn’t do emotionally vulnerable. Will she risk opening her heart to him knowing this romance has an expiration date?   Moody is forced to confront whether she’s truly building a new life or just protecting herself from getting hurt again.   Will she always put up walls or will she truly be able to heal and start fresh?
